Hades monologue
What a difference a night makes!
When I'm alone -
Without her -
I see things differently.
Everything seems different -
Wrong somehow -
Unreal -
Like a stage set -
Fake!
I observe the shifting patterns of light -
Scrutinise the shadows that come and go…
But, for me, nothing flows.
Nothing…
Flows!
I run about the city at breakneck speed,
But I never seem to get anywhere.
I'm rooted to the spot.
My eyes - my eyes are like the sun;
Whatever they see gets scorched -
Burned up, dried up, hollowed out, broken down.
I'm like a troglodyte watching a shadow show on the wall of a cave!
Or a prisoner in a cell -
Blacked out windows -
Solitary confinement.
I used to be a picture in a storybook,
But then I escaped,
And came here to the city,
Where I became a camera
Capturing for posterity
The pantomimes that play out around me.
World without end.
My only future a repetition of the past -
A reflection -
A re-presentation?
You understand?
Not the real thing.
Do you understand?
That's good that you understand.
Anyway,
She's back now.
She's home!
And this is real -
And this is real -
And all manner of thing shall be real!
And I can feel everything
Becoming…
The frozen river
Beginning
Once again
To flow -
