After Rosie finishes interacting with a guest and departs, Ruby approaches.

So you know Rosie?

Well, that’s wonderful, isn’t it. To know her. To know her is to love her.

Say, could I steal you away for a moment? It’s so noisy here!

Ruby ushers her audience member to the 1:1 room entrance.

Have you been in here with Rosie yet?

Well, don’t tell her I brought you in here. That has to be our little secret.

I am sure she’ll want to bring you in here herself, but it looks like I’ve beaten her to it!

When she does bring you - just pretend that it’s your first time, ok?

So tell me, how long have you and Rosie…?

Really! You’ve only just met? Well, that surprises me.

From the way she looks at you…

I mean, she’s always very friendly to everyone of course, in a superficial kind of way - but it normally takes her a little longer to really take a shine to someone. And when it happens fast, like this, it means you have the light.

That she sees the light in you. Shining out of you.

Has she said that to you? That you have it?

Did she say that specifically - did she mention the light?

Did she say it shone out of your eyes?

Yep. I knew it.

That’s what she said to me one time.

It’s powerful isn’t it, when someone sees you in that way.

Like, I’m sure you’re used to getting compliments on how you look. Right? Same here - people say nice things about my eyes all day. But I remember, when she looked at me that night, when she took my hand like this, and she put her hand on my shoulder like this, and she looked into my eyes like she was inspecting my soul, and she said that to me, for me that was really the first time in my life that I felt noticed, I mean really seen.

And I was someone who was looked at for a living, so… yeah! But all everyone could ever see in me was this… kind of… doll thing. But Rosie, as soon as she met me, she saw the Hawk. She saw the Hawk in me.

So yeah, she certainly - yeah. Her gaze… is a powerful gaze, and when it falls on you…

Wow!

It’s a good feeling, huh?

But kind of terrifying too, right?

Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.

I’m really happy for you. Congrats.

You deserve it. It means a lot. You’re something special. I mean, clearly you must be.

You should enjoy it. Enjoy the feeling. Because the light comes and goes. Like the sun! It goes up and down. That’s only natural. I’m just giving you a little advance warning. So that when it happens, when the shadows fall, you don’t freak out. It happens for all of us. Like phases of the moon. Waxing and waning, you know. Nothing to worry about. It took me a long time to learn that. To just accept it, to go with the flow. The ebb and flow.

Well, I’m sure you’ll be invited any moment now. To join our flock.

You’re exactly her type.

Well, one of her types.

Who did you come here with tonight?

I see - well, you’d better start cooking up an excuse to lose them.

Listen: everything you’re about to go through, I’ve been there. So if you ever want to talk about anything, or you want a shoulder to cry on, just come and find me. Ok?

I see it. I see what she sees in you.
