THE THIRD DAY
2020
I was proud to be part of a large ensemble of creative performers recruited to portray a fictional island community in Autumn, the live broadcast that formed the centrepiece of Punchdrunk’s folk horror TV series, a co-production with Sky and HBO. We rehearsed for two weeks on location before filming the 12 hour sequence of events in one unbroken shot.
I was also commissioned to write additional material for the production, a sequence of prayers, loosely based on the traditional Stations of the Cross, to be publicly recited by the islanders as part of the elaborate religious ceremony observed in Autumn.
“Truly beautiful… Ultimately, The Third Day: Autumn is a remarkable feat of live theatre and television, creating something that feels truly experimental, yet engaging; a mesmeric spectacle comprising surprisingly little, yet one that feels impossible to turn away from – largely due to a fierce performance from [Jude] Law and beautifully consistent camera and sound work. With the future of the arts in Britain laden with increasing doubt, here is a much-needed reminder of the fantastic creative potential that still lies in abundance.”
