An extract from Daphne’s 1:1 in The Museum of Trees

You know, I see myself in you.

Yes, we are alike.

The same, you and I.

Do you see that?

The same force drives through us.

We begin in darkness,

Then slowly explode into light.

I've been exploding here for so long…

My one hand reaches up to heaven

And my other stretches down into earth

To see what it can see.

You wouldn't believe the things I find

Down there.

Such treasures.

Help me.

(She opens a music box to reveal a figurine)

It's me.

It was me.

I'm not the same now, of course.

I've changed.

Here I am, caught in the moment of my metamorphosis.

I had no choice but to change.

It was either that or lose the most precious thing I own: my freedom.

A man was after me.

What can I say? He was… a man. Not my type.

And you know what men are like. Only interested in one thing.

And that was not something I wanted to give - to any man.

All I wanted was to be left in peace in the wild woods, amid the whispering pines, the singing birds and the fragrant flowers.

To save myself I had to change myself.

I shifted my shape. So here I stand. Between heaven and earth.

And my body will stay here forever. But my spirit will always be free.

In this wild world everything is always changing all the time.

It can be overwhelming.

So for your own sake, you have to change too from time to time.

But you don't need me to tell you that.

Look at you. You're transforming from moment to moment.

You are spectacular.
